5th XI

Captain's Welcome:

Training Times:

Tuesday: 1800-2000 at Wide Lane

Welcome to the SUMHC 5th XI page. My name is Cameron Browning, I am a second year Accounting and Finance student and the 5th XI captain for the 2018/19 season.

The 5th XI competes on Saturdays in the infamous Hampshire League Division 6. Last year, the 5 XI finished in 3rd place in division 7 thanks to some great performances, and despite some poor turn outs; a reshuffling in the Hampshire League structure meant we claimed the final promotion place in Division 7.

My aim for the year is to build upon the fantastic progress made towards the end of last year having won our last six league games in a row. With weekly training sessions working on skills and tactics this will hopefully help us improve and consolidate our position in this higher league containing some very good teams.

In the 5 XI, everyone who wants to play is given the opportunity to play and train with us, no matter how much or little hockey experience you have. We’ve had many members that had never even held a hockey stick before but ended up being a vital part of the team and club.

We are a very social team, having team socials regularly on Saturdays and participating in the legendary Wednesday circles with the whole club. In the team socials calendar, we have many highlights. Including, but not limited to: the fresher house crawl (which occurs in the first few weeks of term where we get to know the newest members of the team) and the occasional mixed socials with the lovely ladies from SULHC 5th XI. Along with the alcoholic side of the team we also promote team socials for days out such as paint-balling, team meals and more.

If you are still not convinced, do not hesitate to get in touch with myself or any other member of the SUMHC and they will tell you that joining this magnificent club was the greatest decision they ever made. I look forward to meeting all of you next year and showing you why this is the greatest club in the Athletic Union if not the country.
