Hello and a warm welcome to the Southampton University Men’s Hockey Club 2XI. I’m Jack Chapman, a third year Geography student, and I am proud to be the captain of our second team this year.

Last season was extremely successful for us and after a hard fight and some huge away matches we managed to finish 1st in our BUCS league and therefore earn promotion into the league above. Hence, we will now be playing in the same league as our 1XI, along with them we will be facing two Exeter teams, Southampton Solent and UWE over the course of the year. It’s going to be fantastic to play an even higher standard of hockey and I am looking forward to some tough competitive matches to retain our place in the league that we worked so hard to be promoted to. In the Saturday Hampshire League we had some mixed results and finished 8th, this is a league we are more than capable of winning and we will aim to do so this coming season.

A highlight of every season is Varsity, where we play Portsmouth 2s. Last season we came from behind to win 2-1 in what was the best hockey match I’ve ever been a part of. This year Varsity will be played in Southampton in front of a home crowd and is sure to be an incredible day once again.

SUMHC is an amazing thing to be a part of and I honestly can’t think of a better way to spend my time at university. Alongside training each week (which takes place on a Monday with fitness/skills sessions on other days) we have our weekly Wednesday night socials which are a brilliant way to get to know the rest of the club and celebrate the successes in BUCS that day. We also have regular Saturday night team socials and various other team activities throughout the year.

All in all I could not recommend our hockey club more. As a team we couldn’t be more excited to get back on the astro to start this season and we are looking forward to meeting you then – in the meantime if you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
